COVID-19, Artificial Intelligence and Data Governance: A Conversation with Lord Tim Clement-Jones

CAIDG's Director, Mark Findlay, participated in a webinar discussion on 'Artificial Intelligence: Opportunities, Risks, and the Future of Regulation' hosted by the British Institute of International and Comparative law. The panelists discussed data issues surrounding the surge of contact tracing applications such as that of data storing, use of personal data, and the public health effectivness of these applications which require high degrees of public trust. Mark touched on lessons emerging from Singapore's experience with TraceTogether and SafeEntry, and makes the case for regulatory safeguards, such as sunset clauses, that should be in place to build public trust in these applications.

The webinar was convened by Dr Irene Pietropaoli and its discussion was led by Lord Clement-Jones. Other panelists included Professor Lilian Edwards of Newcastle Law School; Carly Kind, Director of The Ada Lovelace Institute; and Professor Peter Fussey, Research Director of Advancing human rights in the age of AI and the digital society at Essex University's Human Rights Centre.
