29.01.19 || Associate Prof Hannah Lim on autonomous vehicles

CAIDG partnered with Associate Professor Hannah YeeFen Lim for the launch of her book and a panel discussion on autonomous vehicles on 29 January.

In her book, Prof Lim explores the current capabilities of autonomous vehicles and importantly, highlights their inherent limitations. She provides a concise and easy to follow overview of the technology behind autonomous vehicles which encompasses hardware and software aspects, including machine learning algorithms. Having laid the technical foundation, the following chapters assess the current legal standards in negligence law that are applicable to autonomous vehicles taking the current technical limitations of the vehicles into account. She concludes by exploring the ethical issues associated with autonomous vehicles and proposes appropriate regulatory approaches. The book was officially launched by The Honourable Judge of Appeal Justice Andrew Phang.

In the panel discussion moderated by our Dean and centre director, Associate Professor Goh Yihan, the panelists - Mr Jonathan Ng (President, Asia Mobility Industries), Prof Lim, and Mr Lam Wee Shann (Chief Innovation & Technology Officer, LTA) engaged the crowd with a lively discussion on the use and future of autonomous vehicles in Singapore.
