On 23 August, Dr. Barry Solaiman (Assistant Dean of Student Affairs & Assistant Professor of Law, Hamad Bin Khalifa University) delivered an insightful seminar on "Trends of AI Governance in Healthcare" at SMU. He outlined gaps and emerging trends in the governance of medical AI, presenting a framework that distinguishes between hard and soft law approaches globally. How do we balance innovation with patient safety? What are the implications of evolving regulations on data, informed consent, and liability? Dr. Solaiman provided critical reflections on these developments in the United States and Europe alongside the legal responses of countries in Southeast Asia and the Middle East.
