08.03.24 || The Straits Times (ST) Education Forum

On 8 March, The Straits Times (ST) Education Forum, held in partnership with Singapore Management University (SMU) took place at SMU Yong Pung How School of Law.


Themed "The AI Revolution: Are you ready for it?”, the Forum ignited insightful discussions and delved into the profound impact of AI on various aspects of our lives, including work, health and learning. The Forum featured dynamic sessions such as "Conversation with Sophia from Hanson Robotics” moderated by Jeremy Au Yong, The Straits Times Editor of Newsroom Transformation, followed by a thought-provoking Q&A and an interactive quiz on "AI generated content vs Humans’". 


The event hosted a panel discussion, moderated by SMU Vice President of Partnerships and Engagement, Prof Sun Sun Lim. The esteemed panelists included Chief Executive of SkillsFuture Singapore, Kok Yam Tan, SMUYPHSL's Asst Prof and CAIDG faculty member Jerrold Soh, and Country Managing Director of Google Singapore, Ben King, who tackled some of the critical issues demanding constructive solutions in the AI revolution. The event also featured SMU exhibition panels showcasing cutting-edge research, where CAIDG exhibited a booth highlighting our research agendas and latest AI research projects.


As nations debate the need to regulate AI, the Forum highlighted predictions of how it will revolutionalize business operations and boost productivity and profits. In addition, the increased pace of workforce transitions will further make it imperative for professionals to acquire new skills, collaborate with advanced machines and pivot towards new job opportunities.
