On 8 February, CAIDG hosted an internal research seminar by Prof Giusella Finocchiaro (University of Bologna) chaired by SMU YPHSL Asst Prof and CAIDG Head of Industry Relations, Nydia Remolina.
Prof Finocchiaro shared her work at the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL) and how it connects to the legal issues of AI, and what to expect on this topic after the AI Act and the Product Liability Diarective.
During the seminar, Prof Finocchiaro addressed the legal issues concerning AI regulation, analyzing the UNCITRAL and European perspectives, after a brief focus on the work recently carried out by the UNCITRAL Working Group on Electronic Commerce. The discussion was particularly timely, given the increasing prevalence of AI across various sectors, prompting calls for comprehensive regulatory frameworks to address the myriad ethical and theoretical challenges.
Prof Finocchiaro fielded questions on the nature and objectives of these regulations, emphasizing the collaborative efforts between Italy and Singapore across legal, political, and technological aspects.
We thank Prof Finocchiaro for sharing her valuable insights with us, underscoring the significance of this topic as a focal point for international collaboration and exchange.
